And
when
they
had
seen
some
of
his
disciples
eat
bread
with
common,
that
is,
with
unwashed
hands,
they
found
fault.

Et
cum
vidissent
quosdam
ex
discipulis
ejus
communibus
manibus,
id
est
non
lotis,
manducare
panes,
vituperaverunt.
3
For
the
Pharisees
and
all
the
Jews
eat
not
without
often
washing
their
hands,
holding
the
tradition
of
the
ancients.

Pharisæi
enim,
et
omnes
Judæi,
nisi
crebro
laverint
manus,
non
manducant,
tenentes
traditionem
seniorum:

And
when
they
come
from
the
market,
unless
they
be
washed,
they
eat
not:
and
many
other
things
there
are
that
have
been
delivered
to
them
to
observe,
the
washings
of
cups
and
of
pots
and
of
brazen
vessels
and
of
beds.

et
a
foro
nisi
baptizentur,
non
comedunt:

alia
multa
sunt,
quæ
tradita
sunt
illis
servare,
baptismata
calicum,

urceorum,

æramentorum,

lectorum:

And
the
Pharisees
and
scribes
asked
him:
Why
do
not
thy
disciples
walk
according
to
the
tradition
of
the
ancients,
but
they
eat
bread
with
common
hands?

interrogabant
eum
pharisæi
et
scribæ:
Quare
discipuli
tui
non
ambulant
juxta
traditionem
seniorum,
sed
communibus
manibus
manducant
panem?

But
he
answering,
said
to
them:
Well
did
Isaias
prophesy
of
you
hypocrites,
as
it
is
written:
This
people
honoureth
me
with
their
lips,
but
their
heart
is
far
from
me.

At
ille
respondens,
dixit
eis:
Bene
prophetavit
Isaias
de
vobis
hypocritis,
sicut
scriptum
est:
Populus
hic
labiis
me
honorat,
cor
autem
eorum
longe
est
a
me:

And
in
vain
do
they
worship
me,
teaching
doctrines
and
precepts
of
men.

in
vanum
autem
me
colunt,
docentes
doctrinas,
et
præcepta
hominum.

For
leaving
the
commandment
of
God,
you
hold
the
tradition
of
men,
the
washing
of
pots
and
of
cups:
and
many
other
things
you
do
like
to
these.

Relinquentes
enim
mandatum
Dei,
tenetis
traditionem
hominum,
baptismata
urceorum
et
calicum:
et
alia
similia
his
facitis
multa.

And
he
said
to
them:
Well
do
you
make
void
the
commandment
of
God,
that
you
may
keep
your
own
tradition.

dicebat
illis:
Bene
irritum

Dei,

traditionem
vestram

For
Moses
said:
Honour
thy
father
and
thy
mother.
And
He
that
shall
curse

mother,
dying

die.

matrem

maledixerit

But
you
say:
If
a
man
shall
say

his
father

mother,
Corban

is

whatsoever

from

profit
thee.

further
you
suffer

calling

the
multitude
unto
him,
he
said

them:
Hear
ye
me
all
and
understand.

Et
advocans
iterum
turbam,
dicebat
illis:
Audite
me
omnes,

intelligite.

There
is
nothing
from
without
a
man
that
entering
into
him
can
defile
him.
But
the
things
which
come
from
a
man,
those
are
they
that
defile
a
man.

Nihil

extra
hominem
introiens
in
eum,
quod
possit

coinquinare,

procedunt

sunt

communicant

any
man
have
ears
to
hear,
let
him
hear.

Si
quis
habet
aures
audiendi,
audiat.

And
when
he
was
come
into
the
house
from
the
multitude,
his
disciples
asked
him
the
parable.

Et
cum
introisset
in
domum
a
turba,
interrogabant
eum
discipuli
ejus
parabolam.

And
he
saith
to
them:
So
are
you
also
without
knowledge?
Understand
you
not
that
every
thing
from
without
entering
into
a
man
cannot
defile
him:

Et
ait
illis:
Sic
et
vos
imprudentes
estis?
Non
intelligitis
quia
omne
extrinsecus
introiens
in
hominem,
non
potest
eum
communicare:
19
Because
it
entereth
not
into
his
heart
but
goeth
into
his
belly
and
goeth
out
into
the
privy,
purging
all
meats?

quia
non
intrat
in
cor
ejus,
sed
in
ventrum
vadit,
et
in
secessum
exit,
purgans
omnes
escas?

But
he
said
that
the
things
which
come
out
from
a
man,
they
defile
a
man.

Dicebat
autem,
quoniam
quæ
de
homine
exeunt,
illa
communicant
hominem.

For
from
within,
out
of
the
heart
of
men,
proceed
evil
thoughts,
adulteries,
fornications,
murders,

Ab
intus
enim
de
corde
hominum
malæ
cogitationes
procedunt,
adulteria,
fornicationes,
homicidia,
22
Thefts,
covetousness,
wickedness,
deceit,
lasciviousness,
an
evil
eye,
blasphemy,
pride,
foolishness.

furta,
avaritiæ,
nequitiæ,
dolus,
impudicitiæ,
oculus
malus,
blasphemia,
superbia,
stultitia.

All
these
evil
things
come
from
within
and
defile
a
man.

Omnia
hæc
mala
ab
intus
procedunt,
et
communicant
hominem.

And
rising
from
thence
he
went
into
the
coasts
of
Tyre
and
Sidon:
and
entering
into
a
house,
he
would
that
no
man
should
know
it.
And
he
could
not
be
hid.

Et
inde
surgens
abiit
in
fines
Tyri
et
Sidonis:
et
ingressus
domum,
neminem
voluit
scire,
et
non
potuit
latere.

For
a
woman
as
soon
as
she
heard
of
him,
whose
daughter
had

unclean
spirit,
came
in
and
fell
down
at
his
feet.

statim
ut
audivit

Syrophenician
born.

besought

he

cast
forth

devil
out
of
her
daughter.

suffer

children
to
be

good

out

come

her
house,

found
the
girl
lying
upon
the
bed
and
that
the
devil
was
gone
out.

cum
abiisset
domum
suam,
invenit
puellam
jacentem
supra
lectum,

dæmonium
exiisse.

And
again
going
out
of
the
coasts
of
Tyre,
he
came
by
Sidon
to
the
sea
of
Galilee,
through
the
midst
the
of
the
coasts
of
Decapolis.

exiens

finibus
Tyri,
venit

mare
Galilææ

medios
fines

And
they
bring
to
him
one
deaf
and
dumb:
and
they
besought
him
that
he
would
lay
his
hand
upon
him.

Et
adducunt
ei
surdum,

mutum,

deprecabantur
eum,
ut
imponat
illi
manum.

And
taking
him
from
the
multitude
apart,
he
put
his
fingers
into
his
ears:

spitting,

touched

tongue.

apprehendens
eum

turba
seorsum,

digitos
suos
in
auriculas
ejus:

linguam
ejus:

looking
up
to
heaven,
he
groaned
and
said
to
him:

Be
thou
opened.

suspiciens

ait
illi:

quod

And
immediately
his
ears
were
opened
and
the
string
of
his
tongue
was
loosed
and
he
spoke
right.

Et
statim
apertæ
sunt
aures
ejus,
et
solutum
est
vinculum
linguæ
ejus,
et
loquebatur
recte.

And
he
charged
them
that
they
should
tell
no
man.
But
the
more
he
charged
them,
so
much
the
more
a
great
deal
did
they
publish
it.

Et
præcepit
illis
ne
cui
dicerent.
Quanto
autem
eis
præcipiebat,
tanto
magis
plus
prædicabant:

And
so
much
the
more
did
they
wonder,
saying:
He
hath
done
all
things
well.
He
hath
made
both
the
deaf
to
hear
and
the
dumb
to
speak.

Bene

surdos

mutos
loqui.
