1. Introduction
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of Sacra Latina, a service provided by Nilable (KvK: 78608783). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. Service description
Sacra Latina provides tools to study Latin Scripture (the Vulgata Clementina with the Douay-Rheims English translation): a parallel reader with per-word grammar, a translation drill, a vocabulary browser, syntax charts, and spaced-repetition flashcards. It is a study supplement, not a complete Latin course, a school, or a pastoral service.
4. Accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You may use much of the service without an account; an account is needed for saved progress and durable flashcard scheduling.
- Provide accurate information when registering and keep your credentials secure.
- You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any activity that violates applicable laws or regulations
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
- Circumvent usage limits or access controls
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to bulk-copy the site, or extract our annotations and glosses wholesale to run a competing product
- Abuse the annotation report form (spam or off-topic submissions)
- Share your account or create accounts by automated means
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Scripture text
The Latin Vulgate and Douay-Rheims plain text are public domain works. Digital sources were obtained via the getBible API. We do not claim copyright on the biblical wording, and nothing in these Terms restricts your use of the public domain Scripture text itself.
8. Intellectual property
- Our content: the grammar annotations, contextual glosses, study tools, software, name, and design are the intellectual property of Nilable. They are licensed for your personal study on this service, not for wholesale extraction or redistribution.
- Feedback: if you submit annotation reports, suggestions, or other feedback, we may use them to improve the service without obligation to you.
9. Content accuracy
Word analyses and glosses are produced with automated assistance and human verification; errors may remain. Use the report control when something looks wrong. We do not warrant academic, liturgical, or pastoral correctness, and nothing on the service is religious or legal advice.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using the service, you agree to the practices described there.
11. Limitation of liability
- The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- We are not liable for learning outcomes, exam results, or decisions made based on the tools.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.
12. Service availability
We strive to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance or updates, and will try to give advance notice when possible.
13. Termination
- You can have your account deleted at any time as described in the Privacy Policy.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if required by law.
- Upon deletion, your data is removed as described in the Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes affecting account holders, we will give notice by email or on the site at least 30 days in advance. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the service and request account deletion.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Dutch law. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the service will be submitted to the competent court in the district of Midden-Nederland (Rechtbank Midden-Nederland).
